Part of a larger project called i don't know where i've been, these photographs represent the first stage of memory making, Encoding. In these photographs, the backgrounds are erased leaving behind only the subject of the photo and a hint of where they may be.

Part of a larger project called i don't know where i've been, these photographs represent the second stage of memory making, Storage. These photographs were created by taking snapshots of found VHS home movies and finding the moments where the image has degraded due to age, overuse, or damage.

This photo series consists of a series of portraits taken of extended family at Christmas 2006. The project engages with the idea of immutable physical markers such as race. I am of full Chinese decent, but my extended family includes many half, quarter, and full Caucasians. By displaying these photographs together, I hope to raise questions about the judgements one makes about a person's background based on their racial identity. Underlying
